As soon as the VRA decision was handed down, southern states rushed to re-district, even while primary voting was underway, in order to eliminate Black-held House seats. A seat each was lost in Tennessee, Louisiana, and Alabama within weeks of the court ruling.

The Fair Fight Fund anticipated the VRA ruling and its aftermath and is leading the fight, with partners, to stop this theft  of House districts. In South Carolina an attempt to redistrict away Representative Clyburn’s seat was stopped. Alabama considered attacking a second Black-held seat but was stopped.

Most recently, the Fair Fight Fund organized opposition to thwart  the Georgia governor and legislature’s plans to redistrict. They organized advocates and called on major Georgia-based corporations - including Coca-Cola, UPS, Delta Airlines and Home Depot - to use their significant sway to stymie it. It worked! The special session called for this purpose has closed with no redistricting undertaken. Now the Fair Fight Fund is  channeling that momentum by expanding Democracy Summer across the South.

Preventing  the loss of a House seat through redistricting has the same impact as flipping a battleground seat. They both lead to our goal of a Democratic House majority.
