The path to a progressive future runs through rural and small town America.

The Rural Voices Project

Rural and small town voters comprise over 40% of the population

in PA, MI, NC, OH, IA, NH and WI

This project is designed to educate rural and small town voters about  the impact of recent federal policies and budget cuts on their communities and promote progressive policy alternatives.

The project will use hyper-local media to amplify the voices of real people in these communities whose lives and families have been affected by recent policies and actions in three states: Iowa, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin.

The Rural Voices Project is being funded through the Rural Democracy Initiative, with whom Force Multiplier has had a four year partnership.

100% of your donation will go to the Rural Democracy Initiative's c3 Heartland Fund.

If you would like to learn about tax advantaged ways to support rural organizing  through your DAFs, QCDs,  RMDs, stock transfers, or family foundations, please reach out to info@forcemultiplierus.org for more information

The Rural Voices Project has four parts:

  1. Recruit and train trusted members of the community in each district - parents, educators, small business people, veterans, farmers, small-town mayors, nurses, and other working people - to become storytellers and online content creators.

  2. Help these trusted local messengers generate hyper-localized messaging about the consequences of Federal cuts and policies. For example a nurse in WI 03 could explain the danger of losing a specific local ER or a teacher in IA 03 could discuss the educational harm caused by cutting broadband funding.

  3. Distribute their content across a selection of RVM’s 500 Facebook and Instagram pages such as Standing Up for the Working Class, and Our Part of Iowa, as well as across RDI partner organization social feeds, and peer-to-peer distribution channels, like church listservs and  neighborhood groups.

  4. Integrate relational organizing through RDI’s grassroots groups so that organizers knocking on doors reinforce the messaging of these trusted messengers.

The Rural Democracy Initiative is convening the Rural Voices Project. Real Voices Media builds local social media pages, provides technical and digital media expertise, and will take the lead in content creation, training and distribution. RDI’s local partners  such as Main Street Alliance, Iowa Farmers Union and PA Stands Up will  identify local voices and integrate these messages into their on-the-ground accountability, voter  education, and mobilization work.
